Best Time to Launch a Kickstarter Campaign: Day, Month and Hour Guide
When should you launch your Kickstarter campaign? Your idea is solid, your product is nearly ready, your video shoots are done. But which exact day, month, and hour should you press that button? The answer has a bigger impact on your campaign's success than most creators realize.
LaunchBoom analyzed data from 342,287 Kickstarter projects to identify the clearest timing patterns available. In this guide, we share those findings alongside practical observations gathered by Minor Visuals across hundreds of Kickstarter campaign video productions.
Best Day to Launch: Why Tuesday Wins
Based on data from 342,000 campaigns, Tuesday is consistently the best day to launch a Kickstarter. LaunchBoom has launched 99% of its 1,000+ campaigns on Tuesdays, and the results are consistent.
The core reason is email open rates. Campaign announcements travel primarily through email, and email open rates peak on Tuesdays. Monday finds people recovering from the weekend, catching up on backlogged work with little mental space for new discoveries. By Tuesday, that fog has lifted. People have re-established their work rhythm and are genuinely open to exploring new ideas.
Avoid weekends entirely. Saturday and Sunday find potential backers away from screens, spending time with family, hiking, or relaxing. Launching on a weekend is like giving a presentation to an empty room.
Best Time of Day: 8 to 10 AM in Your Backers' Timezone
Data analysis points to 8 to 9 AM EST as the optimal launch window. At this hour, competition from other campaigns launching simultaneously is lower, while backer attention is already climbing toward its daily peak.
The key nuance: the best hour is not absolute. It should be relative to where the majority of your potential backers live. If your audience is primarily in the US, align with EST. If Europe is your main market, target CET mornings. The goal is to have as many potential backers awake and online simultaneously when the campaign goes live.
Kickstarter's own data confirms that the 1 PM to 9 PM EST window is the most active for backers, with a peak around 4 PM. A morning launch lets your campaign build momentum throughout the day, arriving at that afternoon peak with real traction already established.
Best Month to Launch: May and the September to October Window
According to the data across 342,000 projects, May delivers the highest average number of backers per campaign. September and October also perform strongly. In 2024, LaunchBoom launched 104 campaigns during this two-month window, averaging $164,000 raised per campaign.
December is clearly the month to avoid. Holiday season drives ad costs to their peak and fragments audience attention. Two clients who launched in December against LaunchBoom's explicit advice averaged only $21,550 each. That is an 87% drop compared to the September to October average.
For the remaining months, differences between them are subtle enough that other factors, particularly your audience readiness and pre-launch list size, will matter more than the calendar date.
Seasonality: Launch When People Use Your Product, Not When They Receive It
If your product is seasonal, that changes the month calculation significantly. Here is a critical point many creators overlook: Kickstarter products typically ship months after a campaign ends. This means you should launch during the season when people will use your product, not when they will receive it.
Example: if you are launching an outdoor camping product, early spring or late winter is far more effective than December. Backers buy when they feel the need, not when the item will eventually arrive.
The First-Week Advantage
Kickstarter's own analysis shows that campaigns launched during the first week of the month tend to achieve higher success rates, with the 1st standing out in particular. Researchers attribute this to a fresh start effect: at the beginning of a month, people feel more motivated and their discretionary budgets have refreshed, making them more willing to support new projects.
Are You Actually Ready to Launch?
Picking the right calendar date alone is not enough. According to LaunchBoom, the clearest sign that a campaign is ready to launch is having a pre-launch email list large enough to hit the funding goal on day one. The first 24 to 48 hours are critical for Kickstarter's algorithm. Strong early momentum signals the platform that the campaign is gaining traction, triggering broader organic discovery.
LaunchBoom's 2024 campaigns reached a 97.8% success rate. That number is built on pre-launch list building and day-one funding strategy. Good timing amplifies that system. It does not replace it.
Timing Matters. So Does Your Campaign Video.
Tuesday morning. May. First week of the month. Even if you get all of that right, the first thing that holds or loses a visitor when they land on your campaign page is your video. Over 80% of Kickstarter visitors watch the campaign video, and it remains the single biggest driver of backing decisions.
At Minor Visuals, with experience across 500+ product and campaign videos, we consistently see the same pattern: good timing combined with a compelling video creates rapid momentum. A weakness in either one limits the other. To see our crowdfunding work and understand how we approach Kickstarter videos, visit our crowdfunding video portfolio.
Quick Reference: Ideal Kickstarter Launch Timing
Day: Tuesday. Time: 8 to 10 AM in your backers' primary timezone. Month: May or September to October. Week of Month: First week. Avoid: December and holiday season. Seasonal products: launch during the season of use, not delivery.
Apply this timing framework while building your pre-launch list, optimizing your campaign page, and producing your video with a professional team. If you want to see previous Kickstarter campaign results and video styles, browse our crowdfunding video examples.
